Gotham FC 2-2 Racing Louisville

HARRISON, NJ–The good news is that Gotham FC will be in the playoffs. The bad news is that it might mean a first round matchup with either league-leading Kansas City or second place Washington. A 2-2 draw with Racing Louisville sees Gotham drop to seventh in the NWSL table with one match remaining and Racing in eighth needing a win in two weeks against Bay FC to clinch the final playoff spot.

Jaelin Howell got Gotham the early lead in the 15th minute as her shot went off the post and in. But by the 29th minute, Racing were back on terms as a Janine Sonis shot was accidentally deflected in by Howell. Racing nearly got a second off a deflection, but Shelby Hogan was able to parry the ball over the bar.

Racing would take the lead in the 65th minute as Gotham failed to deal with a diagonal ball and Sarah Weber was there to pounce. However, Gotham would equalize in the 85th minute on a free kick from Rose Lavelle.

Gotham now travel to North Carolina 0n NWSL Decision Day on Sunday, November 2nd (kickoff time TBA). The Courage will enter needing a win and hope Racing Louisville fail to defeat Bay FC to make the playoffs. Gotham can climb as high as third if results go their way, or a low as eighth and a first round match with Kansas City if they don’t. It will be an interesting November 2nd.
