Premier League Prowlers: The Black Cats Ready to Pounce

For the first time since 2017 Sunderland are back in the Premier League. Beating Sheffield United 2-1 at Wembley marked a first season triumph for French manager Régis Le Bris.

But what should we expect from the Black Cats this upcoming campaign? For a club record fee, Jobe Bellingham said his swift goodbyes, following in his brother’s footsteps with a move to Dortmund.

Another young academy talent, Tommy Watson, jumped ship and headed to Brighton for around ten million pounds. However, the first major piece of business came in the form of Enzo Le Fée making his loan move permanent after a solid first season in England.

Sunderland have a solid squad and it’s full of potential. Eliezer Mayenda scored ten goals last season showing composure in front of goal. Even before turning 18, Chris Rigg was a major influence in the side helping them out in the centre of the pitch.

Undoubtedly, the Black Cats will concede and will need to adapt rapidly to the Premier League, however, one key factor is Daniel Ballard who is an exceptional no-nonsense defender. Sunderland’s success will certainly surround the former Arsenal man.

For any new side in the Premier League, life is tough. You have to adapt to a fast-breaking league and many of the Sunderland team are inexperienced in the top flight. However, with the right additions into a highly competitive side, Sunderland could be the dark horses for the upcoming season.
