Seattle Sounders 0-2 Paris Saint-Germain

SEATTLE, WA–Despite the noon PT kickoff, 50,628 fans came to Lumen Field to see the hometown Seattle Sounders play Paris Saint-Germain. The Sounders still had a faint chance of advancing, but that required defeating PSG by four goals and hoping Botafogo would do them a favor over Atletico Madrid.

In the end, the Sounders’ run at the FIFA Club World Cup ended with a 2-0 loss to the European Champions. PSG advances to the knockout stages along with Botafogo who advanced despite a 1-0 loss to Atletico Madrid at the Rose Bowl. Both PSG (+5) and Botafogo (+1) had superior goal differences over Atletico (-1).

PSG took the lead in the 35th minute after Vitinha’s shot from outside the box deflected off Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and past Stefan Frei into the net. PSG doubled their lead in the 66th minute as Bradley Barcola’s cross was met by Achraf Yakimi who blasted the ball home.

The Sounders return to MLS play on Saturday hosting Austin FC. Kickoff is at 7:30pm on Apple TV.
