Leclerc “too greedy” in hunt for fastest lap in Imola

Reflecting on his crash, Charles Leclerc has said he was “too greedy” when pushing in the closing stages of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

Leclerc sat third on lap 54 behind Red Bull’s Sergio Perez as he jumped over the curb at turn 14 before spinning his Ferrari into the barrier on the exit of the corner.

After this, the Monegasque was forced into the pits before pushing back through the field, settling for a sixth place finish at the end of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

Speaking to Sky Sports F1, Leclerc criticized this late-race push, saying:

“I believe that the spin shouldn’t have happened today, I mean P3 was the best I could do. We didn’t have the pace for much more and I was too greedy.

“I paid the price for it and lost seven potential points compared to my third place I was before. It is a shame, it’s seven points that are valuable at the end of the championship, for sure.

“This shouldn’t happen again.”

Leclerc’s championship lead was cut down to 27 points after Max Verstappen was able to win the race comfortably ahead of Perez and McLaren’s Lando Norris.
