Mercedes “not worthy” after Imola performance – Wolff

Mercedes F1 team boss Toto Wolff has said that his team are “not worthy for a world champion.”

Mercedes secured a strong finish for George Russell in Imola, narrowly beating Valtteri Bottas to fourth place whilst Lewis Hamilton only managed to take 14th.

Speaking to Sky Sports F1’s Ted Kravitz, he said:

“We are not good enough for world champion, not worthy for a world champion. We just need to fix the car.

“I had a little bit of an exchange [with Hamilton]and said ‘sorry for the car that he needs to drive at the moment and we’ll sort it out’ and he acknowledged so it’s okay.

Mercedes now sit third in the championship on 77 points, 38 ahead of main rivals McLaren.
