Barrow Raiders sign former Wigan Warriors halfback Jarrod Sammut

Former Wigan Warriors halfback Jarrod Sammut has signed for Championship side Barrow Raiders for the 2022 season.

The 34-year-old has joined the 10th club of his career as he looks to help the 2021 Betfred League One Champions in the second-tier.

Sammut started his playing career in Australia with Penrith Panthers before moving to Super League with a move to Crusaders RL.

He made his debut for the club at the Magic Weekend in 2010, having only arrived in Wales one day before the Crusaders made their trip to Edinburgh. After leaving the club in 2011, the halfback went on to have two short spells playing for the Bradford Bulls and the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

The Malta international endured some difficult spells midway through his career with a dual registration stint at Featherstone Rovers in 2014 preceding his first stint with the London Broncos on a loan deal.

In 2015, he signed for Workington Town on a dual registration before later penning a permanent deal with the club.

It was at the London Broncos where he would make a real name for himself though as he helped the club move into the Super League after they defeated the Toronto Wolfpack in the infamous 2018 Million Pound Game.

After this success, Sammut earned his chance in the Super League once more and made the move to the Wigan Warriors before switching boroughs and signing for Leigh Centurions.

He once again returned to the capital and had a decent season playing for the London Broncos with the club missing out on the Betfred Championship play-offs on the final day.

Barrow Raiders will take Sammut into double figures for clubs played as he’ll be looking to help them solidify their instantaneous return to the second tier by achieving survival.

Paul Crarey’s side were promoted from League One last season finishing top of the league and will be entering a league that looks to be one of the most competitive yet.
