The injury comes following the first Test of the series where the Sussex man suffered some discomfort as England won by 227 runs.
This will allow Archer enough time to recover and be ready for the third Test which is a day-night encounter in Ahmedabad which commences on the 24th February.
It will be interesting to see who comes in for the 25-year-old with Chris Woakes, Stuart Broad and Olly Stone all vying for a place back in the side, while there are also question marks over whether James Anderson will be able to play in back to back Test Matches.
