Liverpool look to continue their unbeaten record against the top six when they welcome Manchester City to Anfield

The Reds went 68 games unbeaten at Anfield in the Premier League, but have now lost back-to-back home league games against Burnley and Brighton for the first since 2012.

The last time Jurgen Klopp’s men won at Anfield was mid-December against Tottenham which sent them top of the table but now they have fallen seven points behind leaders Manchester City.

More worryingly for the Liverpool manager, his side have conceded six goals this season at Anfield to the bottom six and have failed to score in the last 384 minutes played at Anfield with Sadio Mane’s goal in the draw vs West Brom in December being the last goal.

Whilst the Merseyside outfit have maintained their strong record against the ‘big six’ this season, they have only taken seven points from a possible 21 against the bottom six with the only win coming at the start of the season against Sheffield United and have since followed up with draws against Fulham, Brighton, Newcastle and West Brom.

The Liverpool manager has had to cope with a lot of injuries this season, with all senior defenders out, but his side haven’t had defensive issues, what’s cost them points this season is struggling to score goals. The Reds have only netted five goals against the bottom six teams this season.

With a 14.7% win ratio against the bottom six clubs, Liverpool look to be in a top-four race rather than a Premier League charge.

The Reds had a couple of poor results at the start of the year but looked to have restored their title challenge between those defeat with back to back away wins against Tottenham and West Ham. However, another shocking defeat to Brighton has put more pressure on the Klopp and his players.

The Reds lacked creativity against Graham Potter’s side with Steven Alzate’s second-half goal being the difference. It was the same last week in the defeat to Burnley, it never looked like the Reds got going as they fell to a 1-0 defeat.

The current Premier League champions have the best record against the top six compared to the other teams, winning all four of their league games played this season.

Beating Chelsea and Arsenal whilst doing the double over Tottenham and drawing to both the Manchester clubs. Liverpool will hope to continue this record when they welcome the Premier League leaders to Anfield.

It is the first time Liverpool have gone three home leagues game without a goal in more than 36 years, while they become only the second reigning Premier League champion to do so after Manchester United in their final three home games of the 2001-02 season.
