Clubbing with the Cup. Our reporter attends Bayern victory party after witnessing on flight drama to Lisbon

Bayern Munich defeated Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the delayed 2020 UEFA Champions League Final through a combination of a 59th minute goal from former PSG player Kingsley Coman and an outstanding performance from keeper Manuel Neuer who kept out the Ligue 1 sides’ striking superstars Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

The latter stages of UEFA’s showcase club competition was played out in Lisbon in late August in front of empty stadiums after the competition was paused back in March due to the worldwide coronavirus pandemic.

The victory moves Bayern up to joint 3rd in the table for European Cup triumphs alongside Liverpool who secured their 6th Champions League last year in Madrid when they defeated Spurs 2-0.

Despite the Final being played in Benfica’s 52,000 capacity Estádio da Luz stadium without any fans, around 100 die-hard fans from both Bayern and PSG made the trip to Portugal to support their team in the bars close to the stadium.

One such Bayern fan however failed to be able to say “I was there!” when he was thrown off his flight from Dusseldorf to Lisbon the day before the Final by three German Police Officers after he refused to wear a Covid mask while boarding the flight.

The fan was certainly keen to get to Portugal to support his team as he was the very first passenger to board the flight. He even captured the moment as he videoed himself departing the shuttle bus and climbing the steps up to his Eurowings aircraft.

However his enthusiasm was dented as he was greeted by the stewardess at the top of the steps who requested that he put on his covid-protection mask before he entered the plane. Despite the mask already being on his ears and around his neck he replied that he would put it on when he sat down.

The stewardess however insisted that he put it on properly before he went any further. The guy refused saying that this was just stupid but said he would happily put it on if the Captain asked him. The stewardess asked him again and the passenger advised her she would need to get the pilot.

The stewardess knocked on the pilot’s door and explained the situation to the captain who came out and asked the passenger to comply with the safety measure to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Immediately the passenger complied and he was then allowed to continue onto his seat.

However less than 10 minutes later while passengers were still boarding the flight, three Police officers boarded the plane. They spoke to the stewardess and the Captain and then went over to the passenger to get his version of the events.

After assessing the situation they advised the passenger that he had failed to comply with the staff’s instructions. He then advised that the stewardess was lying and that I was a witness to what happened.

The Police then took a witness statement from myself and confirmed back to the passenger that he would not be allowed to continue on his journey to Lisbon for initially refusing to wear his Covid-19 mask.

He agreed to leave the plane with them but said that he would be complaining strongly to Eurowings about the event.

After the match the Bayern players made the 25-minute journey with police escort back to their team hotel in the Exclusive Penha Longa Golf & Country Club Resort near Sintra outside Lisbon.

The players and coaching staff celebrated all through the night until 6am with German DJ Teddy-O providing the entertainment at the exclusive after match party until 6am before flying home to Germany later in the morning.
