Monchengladbach pursue Champions League place as they visit Werder Bremen

Borussia Monchengladbach will be trying to rebound from a loss against Bayer Leverkusen as they pay a visit to Werder Bremen at the Weser Stadium, on Tuesday at 7:30pm GMT, who will be enjoying the return of numerous players.

Monchengladbach remain in the pursuit of a Champions League spot as they sit in the fifth position with 52 points, making them a point away from the prestigious European competition. The Green-Whites on the other hand are still fighting to avoid relegation, they are positioned 17th with 21 points and a game in hand.

Gladbach boss Marco Rose expressed his disappointment of his side’s performance in the last matchday ahead of the Bremen game, he said:

‘’If we’d performed at an above-average level, we would have won that game.’’

Nonetheless, he showed signs of positivitiy despite the loss, he added:

‘’We want to stay near the top and we’re still up there despite losing to Leverkusen. Ideally, this result serves as a wake-up call, so we’re more attentive from now on.’’

Other good signs were Marcus Thuram who was on the score sheet last time out, the Frenchman is only 22 and has eight goals and eight assists this season. Joined by another French threat in Alassane Plea who has scored nine and created eight goals.

Monchengladbach have impressed under Rose, winning 16 games this, drawing four and losing seven.

Concerning his coming opponents, the Prussians boss made sure he was not going to let their position be of any reason to behave differently, he stated:

‘’With Bremen, you have a side that is fighting against relegation with everything it has. The Werder players have shown courage, and will demand that we put in a top performance against them. Bremen have a good team that have weathered a tough season so far.’’

Meanwhile Werder Bremen won a crucial game against Freiburg last time out winning by one goal to nothing.

They also have an effective and proactive weapon in the form of Milot Rashica, the Kosovo international has been linked with Premier League giants, Liverpool. He’s found the net seven times this season and provided four assists.
