Bayern returned to action last Sunday with a convincing 2-0 win over Union Berlin, and currently hold a four point advantage at the top of the table. They have won their last five consecutive league matches and haven’t lost domestically since the beginning of December.
The visitors on the other hand, sit 13th in the table and are in danger of being dragged into the relegation battle. Their return to action last weekend was a disappointing one as they were comprehensively beaten 3-1 at home by Borussia Monchengladbach. Frankfurt have lost their last four matches and have the worst away record in the division with just two wins from twelve matches.
The hosts will definitely be without Philippe Coutinho and Corentin Tolisso due to ankle injuries, whilst Thiago, Javi Martinez and Niklas Süle are all doubts.
Eintracht will be missing Dominik Kohr who is suspended and striker Gonçalo Paciência who has a thigh injury.
“Frankfurt are very dynamic and play with a lot of heart. During my time off, I watched a lot of Frankfurt games, I like them a lot. Irrespective of recent results, we expect to face a strong team looking to get back to winning ways.”
“I’m not thinking about the result. I’m thinking about trying to get the players to perform like they have in training – in a compact, organised way. We need to believe in our ability to produce a good performance. If we do that, we can upset the odds.”
Last time the two sides met, at the beginning of November, Eintracht thrashed Bayern Munich 5-1 and it proved to be the end of the road for manager Niko Kovac. However, it is Bayern who boast a much better head to head record, having won 27 of the 37 competitive meetings between the two teams. They will be looking to build on this tomorrow in order to put themselves one step closer to clinching an eighth straight Bundesliga title.
