Spurs and Saints square off in chance for replay redemption

Tottenham and Southampton clash in an FA Cup fourth round replay in north London after the sides drew 1-1 on the south coast in the first meeting between the two.

A late Sofiane Boufal goal at St Mary’s ensured a replay must be played at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium as the Moroccan international cancelled out an earlier Heung-Min Son opener.

Saints will have to be careful of the South Korean again who has a fantastic record in the FA Cup, being directly involved in 18 goals in 20 appearances in the competition.

Southampton’s away form in the cup will also worry them with just one win in 11 whilst Tottenham have win their last seven home FA Cup matches, netting 25 goals in the process.

Team news

Tottenham’s hero from the win over Manchester City, Steven Bergwijn, is unavailable to play due to not being registered in time to feature in the first tie.

Ben Davies (ankle), Harry Kane (hamstring) and Moussa Sissoko (knee) remain long-term absentees for the hosts.

Stuart Armstrong is a major doubt for the tie with the squad still to be assessed before the fixture.

Jose Mourinho spoke about his hopes for Tottenham in the FA Cup this season:

Only one FA Cup [won]but I want to try the second one. So if you ask me I know where the direction goes. If you ask me if I prefer to play tomorrow or already have the boys on holidays I prefer to play tomorrow. to have them on holidays would mean that we are knocked out in the first game in Southampton and it is better to draw.

It is another extra effort for the boys and we don’t have many of them in this moment. But I prefer, the fans also prefer. They have been in the stadium against Middlesbrough in the last round and I think they are going to be there tomorrow again. Let’s go. We are in the competition, so until we aren’t we will fight.

Ralph Hasenhuttl told the media that Stuart Armstrong is unlikely to feature against Spurs:

“Stuart is ahead of schedule,” he said. “He could maybe be fit quicker than we think, but fit for Wednesday, I don’t think so.”

“I haven’t seen the group yet, we train in the afternoon and we must have a look at how they are and how they feel.

“They invested a lot at the weekend so we must look at how fresh they are and how fit they are and then decide [who is available to play].”
