Avid cricket watcher Paul, a Hampshire fan, believes it was the best contest he has seen on a cricket field:
“It was the best one-day match I’ve ever seen. The excitement, the tension, it could have gone either way. It was brilliant. I thought we had blown it when [Jimmy] Neesham hit the six. But he [Jofra Archer] bowled well in the rest of the super-over and put it in the block-hole.”
After a couple of difficult few years, bowling the defining over in the world T20 final loss as well as off-field incidents, Paul was pleased with Ben Stokes’s starring role in the match:
“He has had a tough time the last couple of years as you said but was fantastic. It was ironic that he was born in New Zealand as well!”
Meanwhile Finley thought New Zealand were hard done by as the final went right down to the wire and described the emotions of the dramatic super-over. Steve another Royals supporter, agreed that the Black Caps were unlucky and on another day deserved more:
