Dever Orgill scored two goals in the first half for Jamaica to give them a comfortable lead at the interval. Honduras got one back early in the second half through striker Antony Lozano before Jamaica regained their two-goal advantage with a goal in the 56th minute from striker Damion Lowe.
Honduras did get a late consolation goal in the 90th minute from substitute Rubilio Castillo.
The Reggae Boyz made the most of their home advantage as the tournament used a venue in the Caribbean for the first time. The Jamaican National Stadium is probably more famous in the sporting world for being home to the Jamaican Olympic Athletics team, which has dominated the sprint competitions in recent years.
