Stoke terminate Saido Berahino’s contract over drink-driving conviction

Saido Berahino’s contract has been reportedly terminated following his drink-driving conviction.

The 25-year was found in the early hours of February 18 almost three times above the legal limit when driving his black Range Rover in London’s West End. Earlier this month the player was slapped with a 30-month driving ban and also fined £75k.

Burundi international Berahino was signed from West Brom in January 2017 by then manager Mark Hughes after scoring 36 goals in 121 for the Baggies but, has failed to establish himself ever since rumours circulated the player about a potential move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Since signing for the Potters, he has scored only three times and only ended up with his first goal in Stoke stripes on 28 August last year. The striker has only played 51 times and has had a troubled time since playing for the now Championship side.

The player has three years left on his current contract which runs until 2022.

Berahino does not agree with the decision made by the club and looks his team will be considering a legal challenge against Stoke’s decision.

The player also has previous convictions for drink-driving in 2015 and being drunk in charge of a vehicle in 2012. His last game for Stoke came against former club West Brom on February 9, nine days before the incident in London.
