Non League striker jailed for 40 months after attacking woman

Former York City striker Reece Thompson has been jailed for 40 months after being convicted of attacking a woman.

The 25-year-old made a woman lick paint, rubbed broken glass into her skin and assaulted her with an iron bar during a horrendous three-day ordeal.

Thompson inflicted severe damage to his victim, leaving her with huge bruises across her body and cuts to her back.

Thomspon, a former Lincoln City trainee, pleaded guilty to ABH, GBH and damaging property and also broke the woman’s jaw.

The 25-year-old began his career as a trainee with the Imps before playing for Retford United. Thompson went on to represent York City in Sky Bet League Two and North Ferriby United in the National League.

The footballer has since signed for Guiseley AFC in the Vanarama National League but has not appeared since September. Thompson, who was jailed for 40 months and received a 10-year restraining order, threatened to make the woman run down the street naked, according to reports from Lincolnshire Live.

The victim, who wished to remain anonymous, told the news outlet:

“Reece repeatedly hit me.

“He hit me with an iron bar, broke my jaw and smashed a mirror over my head.

“I was made to lick paint up off the floor and then he smashed another mirror over my head.

“It was when he picked up the second mirror that I thought I was going to die, I screamed for him to stop or he would kill me.

“He told me to get my arms down and take the beating like a real person.”
