Vinicius Junior out for rest of the season

Real Madrid attacker Vinicius Junior has been ruled out for two months with a ligament injury in his right leg.

The Brazilian teenager suffered the injury as Real Madrid were humiliated 4-1 against Ajax in the last 16 of the Champions League.

It appeared as though Vinicius got the injury when he hit a shot into the side netting just after the half an hour mark.

The club released a statement on Wednesday confirming the injury:

“After tests carried out on our player Vinicius Jr, by Real Madrid’s medical services, he has been diagnosed with a rupture of ligaments in the tibiofibular joint of the right leg.”

Despite the setback the Brazilian teenager  remains calm and confident of his recovery.

“The club’s doctors calm me and they say I don’t have to worry and that it is nothing serious.”

The 18-year-old had worked his way into manager Santiago Solari’s plans, staring 12 games in a row and 16 of the last 17.

He netted his first goal for Madrid in a 2-0 victory over Valladolid in November before going on to score three more goals.
