Jordi Alba commits himself to Barcelona by signing new deal until 2024

Full-back Jordi Alba has signed a new five year deal with La Liga table-toppers FC Barcelona as the defender signs on till the summer of 2024.

That deal will effectively be to the end of the Spaniard’s career with the 29-year-old set to be 35 by the time the deal ends, also included in the deal is his release clause which is valued at an estimated €500m euro (£428m).

Since Alba joined the Catalan club back in June 2012 from rivals Valencia for £11.2m he has amassed 14 trophies, including four La Liga titles and a Champions League back in 2014-2015.

Currently, in his seventh season with the Spanish giants, the defender has played 282 games, while scoring 14 times including two against bitter rivals Real Madrid.

This season Alba has played 36 times for the leaders of the La Liga, during this time he has helped them reach the last 16 of the Champions League and the Copa del Rey final with two wins over Real Madrid and Sevilla.

The left-back won his 200th Blaugrana cap in that Sevilla win and like many before him, the Spaniard has enjoyed a successful partnership with Lionel Messi, assisting the Argentine 20 times during his Barca career.
