Accrington Stanley boss blasts referee and says he ‘wants to pack his job in’

Accrington Stanley lost 1-0 to Derby County yesterday but it was their boss John Coleman who made all the headlines following the final whistle as he went on a rant about the referee Jonathan Moss.

The Englishman exclaimed to the BBC:

“The referee [Jonathan Moss] has potentially cost us £250,000 because of an appalling decision,” said Coleman.

“I don’t know if it’s because he’s a Premier League referee he thinks he can rule the roost. It’s sickening.

“Everyone was magnificent today apart from one person.”

His rant came after Daniel Barlaser was sent off in the 59th minute following a second bookable offence which angered the Stanley manager as his side had to play with ten men for more than half an hour.

Following the red card, Martyn Waghorn scored the winner for Frank Lampard’s Derby County in the 78th minute with Coleman furious with decision’s recently against his side he expressed to BT Sport:

“I am rapidly falling out of love with football.

“Each week you get stiffed by a decision. It’s a tackle, it’s not dangerous [for Accrington’s red card]. It happened two minutes before on our lad and the referee said it was a coming together.

“I sometimes feel like packing in. I feel physically sick.”

The red card is the second in as many matches after keeper Jonny Maxted was sent off for his part in a brawl with some of the Charlton players last week. While Sam Finlay was given a five-game suspension for violent conduct by the Football Association after appearing to stamp on Charlton’s Lyle Taylor in the same game.

Last week Coleman’s assistant John Busby expressed problems with the refereeing decisions in their loss to Charlton after a last-minute penalty denied the away side a point.

It is expected that the Accrington manager could have put himself in line to get fined as the FA take criticism of there referees very highly but only time will tell if Coleman will face further action following his rant.
