Women’s Super League: Transfer deadline day round-up

Four clubs made signings on transfer deadline day in the Women’s Super League. Here is a roundup of the new additions.

Bristol City Women – Abi Harrison

The Vixens seem to have a talent for developing young forwards. On deadline day they signed 21-year-old Abi Harrison from Hibernian Ladies. Her goalscoring record is superb with 95 goals coming in 113 appearances for her former club.

As a result of her eye for goal, Harrison has won the Golden Boot in the Scottish Women’s Premier League in three of the last four seasons. The move to Bristol City will see Harrison reunited with her former teammate Lucy Graham.

Yeovil Town Ladies – Rachel McLauchlan

Yeovil Town also signed a 21-year-old Scottish forward from Hibernian Ladies as Rachel McLauchlan joined the club who are currently bottom of the league. McLauchlan was Hibernian’s players’ player of the year last season.

She was a key part of the team who won the SSE Scottish Women’s Cup in November for the third consecutive year. Like her fellow Scot, Harrison, McLauchlan could make her debut when the two sides meet on Sunday.

Birmingham City Women – Claudia Walker

Claudia Walker joined the Blues on loan from Everton as she became new manager Marta Tejedor’s first signing. The 22-year-old forward will give Birmingham more attacking options, with Ellen White just coming back from injury.

Walker was Everton’s top-scorer in the 2016 WSL 2 season and then scored seven goals in nine games during the WSL 2 Spring Series. The forward who has been capped at England Under-17s, 19s and U23s level will be in the squad for Tejedor’s first match against defending champions Chelsea on Sunday.

Everton Ladies – Emma Brownlie

Emma Brownlie completed a hat-trick of Scottish players moving from Hibernian to a WSL team on transfer deadline day. The 25-year-old full back will be reunited with manager Willie Kirk and his assistant Chris Roberts and named that as a key reason for joining Everton.

Brownlie is a former Scotland Under-19s international and could make her debut in the FA Cup tie at Southport against Chelsea on February 3. Everton are looking to move up the table after a disappointing season so far and have shown their intent by signing Brownlie.
