Dutch Pitch Invader Jailed

The hooligan who invaded the match during a Dutch cup tie and attacked the AZ Alkmaar goalkeeper has been imprisoned for six months.

Ajax Match Abandoned after Opponents Walk off

The 19-year-old Ajax fan attacked Esteban Alvarado in the 36th minute of the match. He cane off worst though as the keeper floored him and then kicked him twice as he lay grounded.

Astonishingly, he was given a red card at which point the Alkmaar players walked off the pitch.

The man can only be identified as Wesley van W under Dutch privacy laws.

The Dutch Football Association KNVB rescinded the red card and ordered the entire match to be replayed behind closed doors with eleven men on both sides on January 19.

The fan told the court that he was very sorry for his actions and vowed to apologise to the AZ goalkeeper.

He will also have to seek help with apparent alcohol problems but only serve four months of the six unless he offends again within two years.

He cannot attend any matches involving the Netherlands or either side in that period and must report to police stations when they are playing.
