Gotham FC 1-0 San Diego Wave
HARRISON, NJ–On Friday, Gotham FC extended their lead at the top of the NWSL table to four points with a 1-0 win over San Diego Wave, while Washington Spirit lost against North Carolina Courage on Saturday. Gotham are now unbeaten in their last seven matches while the Wave remain fourth on 32 points having won just once in their last four.
The match was delayed 85 minutes due to severe weather in the area. Gotham went on the attack. They cam close twice in the first 16 minutes with Guru Reiten hitting the post and then Rose Lavelle just missing over the bar. Leah Godfrey came just wide for the Wave minutes later. Ann-Katrin Berger would deny Trinity Byars shortly thereafter.
The breakthrough would come in the 44th minute as Jaedyn Shaw would curl a shot past Sandra Paños far post. That would be all the scoring that was needed as Berger got her ninth clean sheet of the season and continues to lead all goalkeepers with a tingly 0.75 goals against average.
Gotham will host Kansas City Current on Friday at 8pm ET on Prime. San Diego Wave will look to rebound at home against Denver Summit on Friday 7pm PT on NWSL+.
