Philadelphia Union holds on over Seattle Sounders F.C., 1-0

Another much-needed home win arrived on the Philadelphia Union’s doorstep Saturday evening by way of its victory over the Seattle Sounders F.C.  Despite the challenging start to the 2026 season, Subaru Park hosted a full house. For a second time, Philadelphia was able to garner three points with the 1-0 victory over the Sounders.

The first half of the game belonged to Philadelphia, although fatigue seems to set in during the second half. Milan Iloski scored the game’s lone goal scored in the 31st minute, off of a textbook through pass from Frankie Westfield. Seattle’s keeper, Andy Thomas, came off his line to cut down on the angle.  Iloski – seeing this development – decided to let the pass hit the ground but once and lofted his shot above the poorly-positioned keeper.  For his efforts, Westfield earned MLS Team of the Matchday honors.

There were other opportunities.  In the 63rd minute Cavan Sullivan intercepted the ball and pushed the Seattle goal cage.  He was tripled teamed and thus passed right to Iloski, who again put the ball in the back of the net.  The line referee, however, called Iloski offside and VAR declined to change that result.

The brothers Sullivan also were worthy of note.   Cavan has worked himself into a legitimate starter.  His footwork and fearless drives through opponents are at a new level this year.  Quinn – even with his limited minutes due to injury – changes the tempo of games.  And the two brothers seem to have a telepathy together on the field.

The Union next face Atlanta United FC, the team currently in last place on the MLS East table, on Saturday August 1, 2026.
