Revolution Strike Four in Comprehensive Win Over Atlanta United

FOXBOROUGH, MA –New England Revolution (9-2-5, 29 pts.) were victorious 4-1 versus Atlanta United FC (3-2-1, 15 pts.) on Saturday night.

The match kicked off at 7:30 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium to a crowd of 34,000.

The match kicked off with Atlanta United playing the ball backward from the center circle as they looked to build possession from the back.

Atlanta created the first chance of the match in the ninth minute when Miguel Almirón cut in from the left and forced a save from Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner.

Entering the 11th minute, the Revolution capitalized on their first clear opportunity of the match to take a 1-0 lead.

Matt Polster sparked the opening goal in the 11th minute, finding Carles Gil in space. The Revolution captain drove at Tristan Muyumba, beat his defender with ease, and curled a precise left-footed effort into the bottom-left corner to give New England a 1-0 lead.

The Revolution continued to push forward and nearly doubled their advantage in the 25th minute when Dor Turgeman unleashed a long-range strike that was comfortably saved by Atlanta United goalkeeper Lucas Hoyos.

New England did find its second goal entering the 36th minute, extending its advantage to 2-0.

After Carles Gil’s delivery was initially cleared, the Revolution patiently recycled possession through Matt Polster, Alhassan Yusuf, and Brooklyn Raines before Yusuf clipped a cross toward the near post. Dor Turgeman met it with a simple finish from close range, tapping the ball beyond Lucas Hoyos to make it 2-0.

Atlanta nearly pulled a goal back in the 40th minute when Miguel Almirón got on the end of a chance inside the box. His left-footed poke beat Matt Turner but struck the post, allowing the Revolution goalkeeper to recover as the danger was eventually cleared.

Almirón threatened again less than a minute later, this time unleashing a powerful effort from distance that forced Turner into a spectacular full-stretch diving save to preserve New England’s two-goal advantage.

After the initial 45+3 minutes, the match entered halftime with New England ahead 2-0.

The second half began with New England controlling possession from the kickoff and patiently working the ball through midfield.

The Revolution created the first opportunity after the restart in the 54th minute when Peyton Miller tried his luck from distance, but his effort sailed over the crossbar.

New England struck again entering the 56th minute, extending its lead to 3-0 and putting the match firmly under its control.

Marko Mitrović and the New England Revolution (9-2-5, 29 pts.) are on the road to face Eastern Conference side CF Montréal (4-3-8, 15 pts.). The match is set to kickoff at Stade Saputo on Saturday, August 1st at 7:30 p.m. ET on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app.
