Red Bulls fail to capitalize on chances

HARRISON, NJ–Red Bull New York fell to defeat once again as Charlotte came out 2-0 winners at Sports Illustrated Stadium on Saturday night.

Pep Biel gave the Crown an early lead before Ashley Westwood doubled their advantage shortly thereafter.

Charlotte were able to hold off the surge of attacks from RBNY and saw out the game. Michael Bradley’s side had 23 shot, but were unable to find the net with any.

Seventeen-year old Adri Mehmeti saw himself sent off in the last minute after being given a second yellow card for what looked like dissent towards the referee.

Jorge Ruvalcaba and Omar Valencia also received yellow cards which will rule themselves out of their side’s next game.

Julian Bazan made his first start after signing for the club back in March and Mijahir Jimenez made his RBNY debut, replacing Emil Forsberg in the 70th minute.

“Look, generally speaking, we feel good about the direction that a lot of things are going, but we have to find ways to reward ourselves,” Michael Bradley stated. “We have to find ways to be that much better, that much sharper, that much harder, that much more focused on some of the really decisive moments in a game. That’s our next step.”

The Red Bulls will now welcome a rejuvenated Orlando City side, bolstered with the signing of Antoine Griezmann to the Sports Illustrated Stadium on Saturday August 1, as they look to get back to winning ways.

Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. ET.
