Philadelphia earns scoreless draw against Nashville

Chester, PA

May 2, 2026

Philadelphia Union fans looked toward Saturday’s game against Nashville S.C. with resignation. Nashville owned the top of the MLS East table, and Philadelphia — well — did not.  The “woe is me” destiny of Philadelphia fandom has firmly taken root in Chester this year.   Put simply, there was little hope that the Union would end up with three points by game’s end.

Three days before Saturday’s game against Philadelphia, Nashville played the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup semi-final match against Tigres UANL.  The second leg of the match-up was scheduled for the Wednesday following Saturday’s game.  With Philadelphia’s meager 2026 record, Nashville rested its stars.

So, it was unsurprising that the Union controlled the first half. Jovan Lukic looked to be on track for the first goal of the game as he wound his way toward the Nashville goal at the 11th minute, but the shot went wide.  Milan Iloski also had an open shot but shot wide in stoppage time for  the first half.  Aside from the lack of finishes, the play was good.

The energy at the start of the second half also was positive, but then at the 62st minute, Nashville subbed in Andy Nájar, Cristian Espinoza and Hany Mukhtar.  The impact was immediate and the momentum shifted to Nashville.    Desperate for the win, Philadelphia did up its efforts toward the end of the game, but the finishes just were not there.  The game ended in a 0-0 draw.
