USA Women 3-0 Japan Women
COMMERCE CITY, CO–A crowd of 17,589 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park saw the US Women’s National Team close out their series with Japan with a 3-0 victory. The series ends 2-1 in favor of the USWNT after winning in San Jose on April 11th and losing in Seattle this past Tuesday.
After a goalless first half despite several chances for the USA, the USA turned it on from the start of the second half off a corner from Rose Lavelle that flicked on by Kennedy Wesley and headed in by Naomi Girma in the 47th minute. Lavelle became the goal scorer nine minutes later after a thru-ball from Trinity Rodman sent her on a breakaway and an easy finish past Chika Hirao to make it 2-0.
Wesley got her first international goal in the 64th minute off a corner from Jaedyn Shaw. Claudia Dickey would get a clean sheet making three saves. Tierna Davidson made her first start for club or country in over a year recovering from an ACL injury.
No matches are currently scheduled as of yet for the USA, but the Concacaf W Championship comes up in November. The USA are already through to the quarterfinals where a single victory will qualify them for the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil. Japan are already qualified after winning the AFC Women’s Asian Cup back in March along with Australia, China, South Korea, North Korea, and the Philippines.
