Vancouver Whitecaps 3-0 Toronto FC

VANCOUVER, BC–Vancouver Whitecaps continued their mastery over their fellow Canadian sides with a 3-0 win over Toronto FC at BC Place. The Whitecaps are unbeaten in their last nine matches in all competitions against TFC dating back to 2020.

All of the damage came in the first half of the match. It started in the 24th minute after AZ Jackson was taken down in the area by Walker Zimmerman. Thomas Muller cooly converted the spot kick to open the scoring. Muller would get a second in the 37th minute getting on the end of a flick-on header by Manuel Laborda to double Vancouver’s advantage. The Ramdeuter now has 11 goals in 17 appearances for the Whitecaps.

More poor set piece defending by Toronto led to the third in first half stoppage time as Brian White pounced on a loose ball in the box following a corner. Toronto had a goal disallowed in the 55th minute for offside. Yohei Takaoka would maintain his fourth clean sheet of the season in all competitions to start the year for the Whitecaps making two key saves late.

Next up for the Whitecaps is a Cascadia Cup match in league play at Portland Timbers. Kickoff is next Saturday at 7:30pm PT on Apple TV.
