17-year-old Julian Hall’s header leads Red Bull New York past New England

FOXBOROUGH, MA– New England Revolution (0-0-2, 3 pts.) were defeated 1-0 versus Red Bull New York (2-0-0, 6 pts.) on Saturday night.

The match kicked off at 2:30 p.m. ET at Sports Illustrated Stadium to a crowd of 15,500.

The match kicked off with New England starting from the center circle as they elected to swiftly advance the ball into New York’s defensive third.

Red Bull had the first chance of the match when an early shot in the 2nd minute by Justin Che was met with a diving save by goalkeeper Matt Turner.

Matthew Dos Santos had the next chance for Red Bulls when his left footed chance went wide of the net in the 10th minute.

In the 13th minute, Revolution winger Griffin Yow was issued a yellow card for thwarting a counterattack by fouling defender Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty.

Ronald Donkor had the next chance for New York in the 19th minute when his deflected shot was saved by Matt Turner.

In the 21st minute, Red Bull midfielder Ronald Donkor was issued a yellow card by accidentally striking Revolution midfielder Brooklyn Raines.

Griffin Yow had New England’s first shot of the match in the 33rd minute when his effort was blocked away for a corner kick by goalkeeper Ethan Horvath.

In the 39th minute, Revolution forward Dor Turgeman was issued a yellow card for a harsh foul on Red Bull defender Dylan Nealis.

After the initial 45+1 minutes, the match entered halftime with the scoreline level at 0-0.

Prior to the start of the second half, Red Bulls head coach Michael Bradley made his first change of the match by replacing Ronald Donkor with Andy Rojas.

Emil Forsberg had the first chance of the half when his freekick effort in the 50th minute was blocked away and cleared by New England.

The second half kicked off with Red Bull New York kicking off from the center circle as they elected to swiftly advance the ball into New England’s defensive third.

Entering the 53rd minute, RBNY took the lead.

Following a set-piece delivery that was played into the area, the ball was headed on by forward Adri Mehmeti and then headed home by forward Julian Hall to give Red Bull the 1-0 advantage.

Dor Turgeman had New England’s next chance in the 55th minute when his strike was saved by Ethan Horvath.

Red Bull New York had the next chance in the 62nd minute when his effort went just wide of the net.

In the 64th minute, Revolution head coach Marko Mitrović made his first two changes of the match by replacing Matt Polster & Luca Langoni with Alhassan Yusuf & Jackson Yueill.

New England’s best chance of the match came in the 68th minute when a cut-back cross by Ilay Feingold was missed after a miscommunication between Griffin Yow & Jackson Yueill.

In the 70th minute, Red Bulls head coach Michael Bradley made his second change of the match by replacing Matthew Dos Santos with Juan Mina.

Just three minutes later, in the 74th minute, Revolution midfielder Brooklyn Raines was issued a yellow card for thwarting a Red Bull New York counterattack.

In the 77th minute, Revolution midfielder Carles Gil was issued a yellow card after a clash with a Red Bull player went the other way.

A controversial no call-penalty occurred in the 80th minute when Ilay Feingold was taken down in the area. The ball then progressed and Red Bull had a chance that was saved by Matt Turner. The play was later deemed offsides.

Following the play, in the 81st minute, both teams made changes. Revolution head coach Marko Mitrović made his third and fourth changes of the match by replacing Griffin Yow & Brooklyn Raines with Jayden Da & Malcolm Fry. Red Bulls head coach Michael Bradley made his third change of the match by replacing Jorge Ruvalcaba with Eric Maxim Chuopo-Moting.

Malcolm Fry had the next chance for New England in the 83rd minute when his effort was blocked away for a corner kick.

In the 86th minute, Red Bull New York defender Dylan Nealis was issued a yellow card for thwarting Revolution forward Dor Turgeman on a counterattack.

Less than a minute later, Alhassan Yusuf had a right footed chance that was deflected away and cleared.

In the 90+1-minute, Red Bulls head coach Michael Bradley made his fourth and final change of the match by replacing Cade Cowell & Andy Rojas with Tanner Rosborough & Gustav Berggren.

New England had yet another opportunity in the 90+3 minute when a cut-back cross by Malcolm Fry went through the box and went out for a throw-in.

After the 90+4 minutes, the match concluded with Red Bull New York holding on for the 1-0 victory.

Marko Mitrović and the New England Revolution (0-0-2, 0 pts.) will return home for their MLS home opener when they take on Eastern Conference side FC Cincinnati (1-0-0, 3 pts). The match is set to kickoff at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, March 15th at 2:30 p.m. ET on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app.
