Vancouver Whitecaps 1-0 Real Salt Lake

VANCOUVER, BC–The 500th Major League Soccer match in Vancouver Whitecaps history was a successful one as the defender Western Conference Champions opened with a 1-0 win in front of 23,546 at BC Place.

Aziel Jackson (aka “AZ) got the game’s only goal in the 57th minute of the match. Jackson, who came to the Whitecaps from Polish side Jagiellona Biyalstock, got the ball off a deflected Tate Johnson cross and scored from point blank range.

Prior to the goal, the Whitecaps had to overcome a pair of nervy moments in the first 15 minutes in the back, that gave RSL chances, but would take neither of them. Indeed, RSL would have a Faith Piol goal disallowed for offside in the 38th minute.

The Whitecaps return to Concacaf Champions Cup play on Wednesday hosting Cartagines of Cost Rica on Wednesday night at 6:30pm PT (ONESoccer, FS2).
