Revolution obliterate Hartford Athletic 6-1 in preseason finale

FOXBOROUGH, MA– New England Revolution (2-1-2, 4 pts.) were victorious 6-1 in a 135-minute preseason match versus Hartford Athletic on Saturday afternoon.

The match kicked off at 12:00 p.m. ET at New England Revolution Training Center to a crowd of 100.

The match kicked off with Hartford starting from the center circle and swiftly advancing the ball into New England’s defensive third.

Hartford had the first moment of the match came in the 5th minute when a corner kick delivery was sent into the area, headed away by Leo Campana & then cleared by Carles Gil.

Carles Gil had the first chance for New England came in the 11th minute when his left-footed shot from 20-yards out snuck just wide of the left post.

New England had a massive chance to score just 3 minutes later when Griffin Yow played an L-turn pass in-behind to Leo Campana who then sent his shot just wide of the net.

Dor Turgeman then had an effort toward goal in the 16th minute that was deflected wide and out for a corner kick that inevitably led to nothing.

Entering the 21st minute, New England took the lead.

Midfielder Matt Polster managed to slip-in forward Leo Campana in-behind for the strong finish to make it 1-0 to New England.

Campana had a chance to double his tally just 3 minutes later when he was found by Carles Gil but unfortunately sent his effort wide of the net.

Entering the 28th minute, New England added to their lead.

Following a corner kick delivery by midfielder Carles Gil, the ball was headed home by forward Leo Campana for his second goal of the game, making the scoreline 2-0.

Griffin Yow had the next chance for New England in the 35th minute when his delivery into the area towards Leo Campana was claimed by Hartford goalkeeper.

Just two minutes later, Carles Gil had a massive chance that was met with a spectacular save by Hartford Athletic’s goalkeeper.

After the initial 45 minutes, the match entered halftime with New England ahead 2-0.

The second half kicked off with New England starting from the center circle and swiftly advancing the ball into Hartford’s defensive third.

Entering the 48th minute, New England were given a penalty kick.

Midfielder Carles Gil stepped up and slotted the ball into the top right corner of the net to make it 3-0 to New England.

In the 54th minute, Revolution head coach Marko Mitrovic made his first two changes of the match by replacing Keegan Hughes & Will Sands with Ilay Feingold & Tanner Beason.

Dor Turgeman had a massive chance in the 65th minute when his chip towards goal was going in, however, the effort was cleared off the line with a bicycle kick clearance by a Hartford defender.

Entering the 68th minute, Hartford were given a penalty kick.

A Hartford player stepped up and slotted the ball into the bottom corner past Matt Turner to make it 3-1.

In the 73rd minute, Revolution head coach Marko Mitrovic made two more changes by replacing Leo Campana & Brooklyn Raines with Alhassan Yusuf & Malcolm Fry.

Malcolm Fry had a chance to add to New England’s lead in the 78th minute when his effort towards goal was cleared.

In the 85th minute, Revolution head coach Marko Mitrovic made more changes. Andrew Farrell, Ethan Kohler, Matt Polster, Carles Gil, Griffin Yow & Dor Turgeman were replaced by Eric Klein, Gabe Dahlin, Jackson Yueill, Allan Oyirwoth, Javaun Mussenden, & Jayden Da.

Jayden Da had an opportunity to get onto the scoresheet in the 89th minute when a Malcolm Fry delivery into the area found the head of Da, but unfortunately his effort was sent wide.

After the initial 90 minutes, New England had a 3-1 lead. As this is a preseason scrimmage, the two sides would play an additional 45 minutes.

In the 90th minute, Revolution head coach Marko Mitrovic made his final change of the match by replacing Matt Turner with Donovan Parisian.

Javaun Mussenden had the next chance for New England in the 98th minute when his effort towards goal was blocked away and cleared.

Entering the 106th minute, New England added to their lead.

Following a corner kick delivery by Jackson Yueill, the ball was headed on by Jayden Da & then kneed into the net by midfielder Eric Klein to make it 4-1.

Entering the 109th minute, New England added to their lead again.

Winger Malcolm Fry took on a Hartford defender and sent a ball into the area that was buried into the net by Alhassan Yusuf to make it 5-1.

Just two minutes later, in the 111th minute, New England added to their lead once again.

Defender Ilay Feingold sent a cross into the box that was headed home by Allan Oyirwoth to make it 6-1.

Hartford’s only major chance of the game came in the 121st minute when a bad giveaway at the back by Tanner Beason led to an effort that went wide of the net.

Jayden Da had another opportunity to add to the lead in the 128th minute when his effort hit the side netting of the net.

After 135 minutes, New England held on for a comfortable 6-1 victory.
