Gotham FC 3-0 Portland Thorns

HARRISON, NJ–Gotham FC moved closer to a playoff spot and a home playoff quarterfinal with a 3-0 victory over Portland Thorns at Sports Illustrated Stadium. Gotham are now unbeaten in their last nine matches in all competitions. Gotham also go third in the NWSL table on 34 points with two matches to play while Portland drop to fifth on 31 points with Orlando winning at San Diego on Friday night.

The hosts needed just ten minutes to go ahead. Maddy Freeman sent a cross into the area that was headed in by Midge Purce for her first goal since 2023. Two minutes before halftime, Jayden Shaw sent Rose Lavelle on her way between two defenders and then past Mackenzie Arnold to double Gotham’s advantage. Lavelle turned provider in the 73rd minute on a give-and-go with Katie Stengel to complete the scoring.

Gotham will look to make it ten matches unbeaten next Sunday at home against Seattle Reign (4pm ET, Paramount+), while Portland will take on Bay FC at home next Saturday (7pm PT, Ion).
