Soccer on the Sound: Defiance eliminated from playoff contention

Tacoma Defiance 1-4 Colorado Rapids 2

TUKWILA, WA–Tacoma Defiance were officially eliminated from MLS NEXT Pro playoff contention after a 4-1 loss to Colorado Rapids 2. Billo Diop opened the scoring for Rapids 2 in the 32nd minute putting in a rebound after his penalty kick was saved. Tacoma had equalized in the 50th minute through an own goal by Charlie Harper.

It would stay level until the final ten minutes. Anthony Garcia got in behind the Defiance defense to put Rapids 2 ahead in the 80th minute. Alex Harris took advantage of a poor clearance to make it 3-1 in the 90th minute. James Cameron concluded the scoring in stoppage time getting one past Noah Newman.

Tacoma will play their penultimate match of the season on Sunday against The Town FC. Kickoff is at 5pm CT on Apple TV.
