Gotham FC 1-2 Houston Dash
HARRISON, NJ–The Houston Dash overcame an early deficit and a weather delay to get a road victory over Gotham FC, 2-1, at Sports Illustrated Stadium in New Jersey. The result moves the Dash two within two points of the playoff places in 10th place while Gotham hang on to the eighth and final playoff spot ahead of North Carolina on goal difference.
Esther gave Gotham the lead on seven minutes pouncing on a rebound after Rose Lavelle’s shot went off the woodwork. However, five minutes into the second half, Gotham would put the ball into their own net. While attempting to play the ball out of the back, Emily Sonnett accidentally passed the ball beyond the reach of Ann Berger and into the net. Up until that point, the Dash had done virtually nothing offensively.
The match was suspended in the 63rd minute due to severe weather. After the delay, and into stoppage time, the Dash still had not had a shot on target. Against the run of play in stoppage time, Michelle Alozie would put the ball in the back of the net and the three points.
Gotham FC will now turn their attention to the Concacaf W Champions Cup and CF Monterrey Femenil at Icahn Stadium in Manhattan on Wednesday. Kickoff is at 7pm ET. The Dash will take on Seattle at home next Sunday (6pm CT, Paramount+).
