FOXBOROUGH, MA– New England Revolution II (8-6-5, 34 pts.) battled to a 2-2 draw & then won 5-4 in penalties over Columbus Crew 2 (3-4-13, 14 pts.) on Sunday night.

The match kicked off at 8:00 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium.

Starting XI versus Columbus Crew 2.

The match kicked off with Columbus Crew 2 starting from the center circle as they elected to launch the ball quickly into New England’s defensive third.

Liam Butts had the first major chance of the match when his shot on the right flank went high over the net in the 7th minute.

Allan Oyirwoth had the next opportunity for New England in the 12th minute when his right footed shot went just wide of the net.

Malcolm Fry had a chance of his own in the 17th minute that was deflected and cleared. There were initial shouts for a hand-ball, however, play continued with no whistle blown.

Less than a minute later, Liam Butts had a strong effort towards goal that was saved by goalkeeper Luke Pruter. The ball had fell kindly inside the center of the box, however, no New England Revolution 2 player was in the area.

Gevork Diarbian had a chance to score for New England entering the 32nd minute when his deflected effort towards goal went just over the bar and out for a corner kick.

Less than a minute later, Diarbian had another effort towards goal as he was looking to find Butts inside the six yard box, however, goalkeeper Luke Pruter managed to claim the ball and thwart New England from finding the opening goal.

New England’s next major chance came from a corner kick in the 41st minute that was headed just wide of the left post by forward Liam Butts.

Malcolm Fry then had a massive opportunity just one minute later when his left-footed effort was met with a diving block out for a corner kick.

Entering the 43rd minute, New England had thought that they took the lead, however, Liam Butts was offsides. The score remained 0-0.

After the initial 45+1 minutes, the match entered halftime with the scoreline level at 0-0.

Prior to the start of the second half, Crew 2 head coach Federico Higuaín made his first change of the match by replacing Giorgio De Libera with Brent Adu-Gyamfi.

The second half began with New England Revolution II starting from the center circle as they chose to swiftly advance the ball into Columbus’ defensive third.

Entering the 47th minute, Columbus Crew 2 took the lead.

Midfielder Brent Adu-Gyamfi found forward Chase Adams inside the six-yard box for the simple tap-in finish past goalkeeper Donovan Parisian to make it 1-0 to Columbus.

Crew 2’s next chance of the match came in the 52nd minute when a shot taken by Nico Rincón went high and wide over the net.

In the 62nd minute, Revolution II head coach Richie Williams made his first two changes of the match by replacing Liam Butts & Victor Souza with Damorney Hutchinson & Damario McIntosh.

Just three minutes later, in the 65th minute, Columbus Crew 2 head coach Federico Higuaín made his second change of the match by replacing Kevin Gbamblé with Prince Forfor.

Entering the 69th minute, New England Revolution II were granted a penalty kick after Gevork Diarbian was taken down inside the penalty area by Nico Rincón. Following the foul, Revolution II defender Hesron Barry was issued a yellow card while on New England’s bench for poor sportsmanship.

Forward Marcos Dias then stepped up to take the penalty kick. His right footed effort was buried into the bottom right center past goalkeeper Luke Pruter to level the scoreline at 1-1.

Marcos Dias had another effort towards goal after his freekick in the 73rd minute was met with a diving save by goalkeeper Luke Pruter.

In the 75th minute, Revolution II forward Damorney Hutchinson was issued a yellow card for a foul on defender Christopher Rogers.

Just four minutes later, in the 79th minute, Revolution II head coach Richie Williams made his third change of the match by replacing Cristiano Oliveira with Alex Monis.

In the 86th minute, both teams made changes. Columbus Crew 2 head coach Federico Higuaín made his third change of the match by replacing Anthony Alaouieh with Alex Gimple. Revolution II head coach Richie Williams made his fourth change of the match by replacing Gevork Diarbian with Sharod George.

Entering the 88th minute, New England took the lead.

Forward Marcos Dias managed to find forward Damorney Hutchinson inside the box for the simple finish past goalkeeper Luke Pruter to make it 2-1.

In the 90+1 minute, Columbus Crew 2 head coach Federico Higuaín made his fourth change of the match by replacing Keesean Ferdinand with Cristian Ortiz.

Entering the 90+4 minute, Columbus leveled the match,

Forward Chase Adams unleashed a rocket of a shot that was buried into the top left corner to make it 2-2.

After the 90+5 minutes, the match concluded in a 2-2 draw.

Penalties would be used to determine which team left with an extra point.

The Revolution’s first penalty kick taker was Marcos Dias, His right footed shot was converted into the middle right of the net to take the 1-0 lead.

Crew II second penalty kick taker was Nico Rincon. His left footed went into the bottom left corner to level the scoreline at 1-1.

The Revolution’s second penalty kick taker was Allan Oyirwoth. His right footed panenka attempt struck the crossbar and missed, keeping the score at 1-1.

Crew II’s third penalty kick taker was Brent Adu-Gyamfi. His right footed shot was buried into the middle left of the net to make it 2-1 to Columbus.

The Revolution’s third penalty kick taker was Damorney Hutchinson. His right footed shot was scored in the bottom left of the net to make it level at 2-2.

Crew II’s fourth penalty kick taker was Ibrahim Sy. His right footed shot was buried into the bottom left of the net to make it 3-2 to Columbus.

The Revolution’s fourth penalty kick taker was Sharod George. His right footed shot went into the bottom right corner to level it at 3-3.

Crew II’s fifth penalty kick taker was Owen Presthus. His right footed shot was buried into the top right of the net to make it 4-3 to Columbus.

The Revolution’s fifth penalty kick taker was Eric Klein. His right footed shot went into the top left corner to level it at 4-4.

Crew II’s sixth penalty kick taker was Cristian Ortiz. His right footed shot was saved in the bottom right corner by Donovan Parisian to keep it 4-4.

The Revolution’s sixth penalty kick taker was Alex Monis. His right footed shot went into the bottom left corner to  win the penalty shootout 5-4 & secures the extra point for New England.
