Gotham, Spirit play to goalless draw

Gotham FC 0-0 Washington Spirit

HARRISON, NJ–Despite being down a woman for an hour, Gotham FC held on for a goalless draw against Washington Spirit at Sports Illustrated Stadium on Saturday. Gotham were reduced to ten after Geyse was sent off for a poor tackle against Gabbi Carle in the 30th minute after a review by VAR.

Despite the one-woman advantage, Washington were unable to make the most of it. There were no real shots for the Spirit after the red card. Indeed, Gotham had a great chance to snatch all three points towards the end on a counter attack, but the shot was saved by Aubrey Kingsbury.

Prior to the red card. the Spirit were gifted a chance after Ann Berger was dispossessed of the ball, but Rosemonde Kouassi would strike the ball off the post.

Gotham still cling to the eighth and final playoff spot in the NWSL with the draw while Washington miss out on a chance to go second in the table.

Gotham FC next face Houston Dash next Sunday at 4pm ET (Paramount+) while Washington next play on Friday against Racing Louisville (8pm ET, Prime Video).
