England eye Euro glory with fresh-look squad in Switzerland

England begin their hunt in Switzerland, for the Women’s European Championships hoping to regain from their success in the 2022 version. However this time the squad has a new and freshly improved look this time around.

Prior to the squad announcement, the shocking international retirement of PSG goalkeeper Mary Earps, paved the way for Hannah Hampton to have a real opportunity on the international stage after a promising season with Chelsea, keeping 13 clean sheets last season.

A slower season for Lauren James in the FA Women’s Super League. She missed games at the previous World Cup after picking up a controversial red card. She will likely play second fiddle to Arsenal superstar Alessio Russo who contributed once against Jamaica in a send off game and twenty times for the Gunners in the latest campaign.

Key names like Ella Toone, Leah Williamson, Beth Mead and Lauren Hemp are all in the England squad having made a large contribution to the Lionesses recent success on and off the pitch. The squad is full of recognisable faces and to single out a select few would be unfair on the quality of the team, England are favourites alongside World Cup winners Spain.

Seven players will make their first outings for their country at a major tournament: Michelle Agyemang, Aggie Beever-Jones, Grace Clinton, Khiara Keating, Maya Le Tissier, Anna Moorhouse, and Jess Park. The pool of talent that Sarina Wiegman can choose from is exceptional and that will be on display when they face France in the opening game of each side’s campaign.
