Vancouver Whitecaps 2-2 LAFC

VANCOUVER, BC–The Whitecaps extended their unbeaten streak in all competitions to eleven following a 2-2 draw with LAFC. The Whitecaps maintain a five-point lead atop the Western Conference over Minnesota United while LAFC miss out on the West’s Top four and remain sixth.

It started inauspiciously for the hosts as eight minutes in, a long throw-in by LAFC was initially met after a flick-on by Eddie Segura whose header was saved by Yohei Takaoka, but the rebound would be put in by Marky Delgado to give LAFC the lead. The lead was doubled from the penalty spot in the 19th minute after Ryan Hollingshead was tripped in the box and then Denis Bouanga would convert the spot.

However, Vancouver would respond seven minutes later as Brian White would head in Sebastian Berhalter’s free kick to pull one goal back. The equalizer would come in 70th minute after Emmanuel Sabbi’s cross into the box was deflected towards Ali Ahmed who headed across goal towards White who headed in for a brace. He is now joint-leader for the Golden Boot in MLS with eight goals alongside three other players:  San Jose’s Chicho Arango, Chicago’s Hugo Cuypers, and Philadelphia’s Tai Baribo.

LAFC next play on Wednesday night against Seattle Sounders FC (7:30pm PT, Apple TV), while Vancouver is one of four teams not playing in midweek. Their next match is Saturday at Austin FC (5:30pm PT, Apple TV).
