San Diego, Calif. — While the match was only a friendly, it could be described as anything but. The game grew extremely chippy in the second half of play, leading to a red card and trash being thrown on the field.

The Xolos took an early lead as José Zuñiga scored the club’s lone goal in the 14th minute. The Xolos rode this moment, maintaining possession for most of the first half of play. Although nothing came of it, they put pressure on the Chivas.
Tempers flared in the second half, several players were unhappy with calls the referees were making and started to argue back. This culminated with Chivas player Érick Gutiérrez receiving a red card after arguing his point with the referee.

Fans were not happy, some even threw empty water bottles and beverage containers onto the field.
The Chivas had to play a man down the rest of the match, but this didn’t stop them from scoring their lone goal in the waning minutes of the game. After Teun Wilke headered the ball in for the goal, the Chivas crowd went ballistic.

This is where the scoring ended and the heavily contested match ended with no true victor. The next match that will take place at Snapdragon will be SDFC vs. LAFC in a highly anticipated match on March 29.
