FC Dallas 0-1 Vancouver Whitecaps
FRISCO, TX–Vancouver Whitecaps winning their first four matches of the season and advancing to the Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinals at Cruz Azul’s expense were on only the bingo cards of the most optimistic. Yet, that is where we are as the Whitecaps left North Texas with all three points in a 1-0 win over FC Dallas.
Despite being goalless in the first half, the first half was virtually all Vancouver who dominated possession. But for Maarten Paes and some timely defending did it remain goalless. That would remain until the 54th minute as off a corner, Jean Claude Ngando would send a diagonal ball into the box and Tristan Blackmon would head it in from close range for the game’s only score.
Yohei Takaoka would not have to face a shot on goal all match as the defense held firm and the Whitecaps became the seventh team in MLS history to open a season with four straight wins.
The Whitecaps will look to keep their unbeaten run going next Saturday at home against Chicago Fire. Kickoff is at 7:30pm PT (Apple TV). FC Dallas travel to Real Salt Lake next Saturday for an 8:30pm CT kickoff.
