As the 2025 MLS season prepares to kick off, Inter Miami is gearing up for what promises to be an exciting campaign.

A mix of experience, youth, and a new head coach in Javier Mascherano, the Herons will look to build on last season’s success and try to go one further by winning the competition.

After setting a regular season points record last season, Inter is expected to be a strong contender for the MLS Cup this year, and they have the players to make it happen.

The Club boasts a formidable roster. Lionel Messi is clearly the star of the team and the player many fans come to see, and his record from last year tells you why. With twenty goals and sixteen assists in just nineteen appearances, it’s easy to see why he is considered one of the best players of all time.

Alongside him, former Barcelona stars Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba continue to impress, making for a potent attacking force.

With an impressive five goals and fifteen assists, Alba is a constant threat down the left-hand side and will continue to contribute to the team. If he stays free of injuries, I expect him to achieve similar stats at the end of the coming season.

Suarez’s goal threat is legendary, and while the Uruguayan doesn’t have the pace he once did, he hasn’t lost his predatory instincts in the box, with the striker bagging twenty goals last season.

Like most clubs, there have been some changes in personnel that will need time to adjust to a new environment.

Argentine forward Tadeo Allende has been brought in from Spanish side Celta Vigo on a season-long loan. While Vancouver Whitecaps FC winger Fafa Picault will bolster the attack and add more firepower.

Picault just finished a career-best season with Vancouver Whitecaps FC last year and will look to impress again this season for Miami.

Young Venezuelan international midfielder Telasco Segovia will add further depth and competition to the midfield and bolster an already large squad.

There have also been some significant departures. Leonardo Campana, the club’s second highest goal scorer, has moved to New England, and Diego Gomez made the big move to the English Premier League with Brighton.

With injuries and International commitments, both players saw plenty of game time last year and proved integral to the team’s success, and their goal threat will be missed. Facundo Farías has returned to Argentina after missing the previous season due to injury.

New York City awaits on Saturday for the season opener, with both teams desperate to make a winning start to their campaign.

As Mascherano and his coaching team put the final touches on their season preparations, fans will hope that they can go one step further than last year and win the MLS Cup.
