FOXBOROUGH, MA– Per Sources, the New England Revolution are signing 33-year-old Argentine forward Maxi Urruti.
Urruti will occupy a Senior Roster Slot. He will not occupy an International Roster Slot as he holds a U.S. green card which qualifies him as a domestic player for MLS roster purposes.

In August of 2013, Urruti left Newell’s for MLS side Toronto FC (2013). Less than one month later, he was traded to Portland Timbers (2013-15) along with an International Roster Slot for forward Bright Dike, a 1st round 2015 MLS SuperDraft pick & General Allocation Money. At the conclusion of the 2015, he was selected 1st overall in the MLS Re-Entry Draft by FC Dallas (2016-18). In December of 2018, Urruti was traded to CF Montreal in exchange for a 1st round pick in 2019 MLS SuperDraft & $75,000 in General Allocation Money. In total club numbers, the forward has contributed 95 career goals, 34 assists, along with 40 yellow cards and 1 red cards.
Internationally, Urruti has never appeared for his national team. He can represent Argentina.
Yesterday, at New England’s preseason virtual press conference, Caleb Porter stated, “We will probably add another depth piece as well up top, because it’s going to be some time until [Tomás] Chancalay comes back. We don’t want to be in a situation where for the next three months if we play a two-front, we have nobody to sub in. Or if we end up starting [Ignatius] Ganago and [Leo] Campana, we don’t have again, a number nine to come in. There’ll be an announcement the next couple days with a depth piece.”
Later that same day, sources confirmed to me that Maxi Urruti would be signing as a free agent forward for New England.
