Charlotte FC leaves Miami with a point

Charlotte FC picked up a point after a 1-1 draw in a match on the road against the MLS Supporters’ Shield leaders, Inter Miami.

There was lots of action in the match with Inter Miami having 21 total shots, eight of which were on goal. Charlotte had nine shots with just two on goal.

Charlotte struck first with a 57th minute goal by Karol Świderski. Brandt Bronico took the shot from the edge of the box that deflected off Świderski to get past the Inter Miami goalkeeper.

Charlotte’s lead did not last long as Lionel Messi scored for Inter Miami in the 67th minute with a stellar strike from outside the box to beat Kahlina to the bottom left corner of the goal.

Inter Miami kept the pressure on Charlotte throughout the remainder of the match, but Charlotte’s defense held strong, with Kahlina making saves on any shot on goal and not allowing any more goals. Charlotte also had a few counterattack chances that they were not able to capitalize from.

Inter Miami had an expected goal total of three but scored just the single goal as Charlotte goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina made seven saves in a man of the match worthy performance. Adilson Malanda also played well, with a tackle in the box that was initially called a penalty and a second yellow card being reversed after a VAR review.

Charlotte is now seventh in the MLS Eastern Conference, two points behind fifth place with three matches left to play.

Charlotte’s next match is a midweek matchup at home with Chicago Fire FC on Wednesday, October 2.
