Charlotte FC picks up another point on the road against Austin FC

Charlotte FC picked up another point on the road after a 2-2 draw with Austin FC.

Karol Świderski started at striker for Charlotte, his first match of the season following a loan spell at Hellas Verona for the first half of the season.

The scoring got started early in the match with Austin FC striking first with Alex Ring slipping in behind the defense to score a header in the 11th minute.

Świderski got involved in the match early on too, with a strike from outside the box missing just high above the goal in the 17th minute. After a penalty being won by Iuri Tavares in the 32nd minute, Świderski stepped up to the penalty spot and even the score with a shot to the right and the goalkeeper guessing wrong.

Świderski nearly struck again to start the second half, intercepting a pass back to the goalkeeper, taking a touch to get around the keeper before hitting the crossbar on a shot from a difficult angle. Świderski had another good chance at goal in the 52nd minute with a close-range header and a point blank save from the goalkeeper to prevent the goal.

Charlotte took the lead in the 56th minute after Ashley Westwood found Tavares at the far post on a cross with Tavares finish across the keeper.

Austin FC tied the score back up in the 80th minute with a goal from Jon Gallagher from close range.

Charlotte had a chance to retake the lead with a shot from Brecht Dejaegere that missed just wide to the left.

The final big chance of the match came in the fifth minute of stoppage time with a ball over the top to Diego Rubio found him in the box behind the defense, but a poor first touch allowed the defense to recover and clear the ball, before the final whistle blew shortly after.

Iuri Tavares was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for his efforts in the match, scoring a goal and winning the penalty that scored the other goal for Charlotte.

The draw was Charlotte’s second consecutive draw on the road as they head into the Leagues Cup. Charlotte will take on the Philadelphia Union on the road for their first match of the Leagues Cup.
