Portland showed last Saturday night what was probably their best game this season against a rival, Real Salt Lake, in direct competition for a slot in the postseason.
Portland’s 3-0 win was not the full story. Portland started scoring in just two minutes in the game with a goal by Felipe Mora. The second goal came by the man of the match, Santiago Moreno in 48, with Evander Ferreira closing the count in stoppage time. The larger story was seeing the Portland Timbers putting in a solid performance in all lines, solid in the back, effective in the middle, and lethal in the attack.
This type of performance against a strong team like Real Salt Lake is definitely a statement win from manager Phil Neville where his team interpreted his sheet music to perfection, adding their individual solos to a night fans will remember for months to come.
