Charlotte FC suffers disappointing loss at home against league leading Inter Miami

Charlotte FC suffered a second consecutive defeat after a 2-1 loss in their midweek match against Inter Miami CF.

Charlotte FC generated many chances but struggled to generate quality chances with 14 total shots but on two on goal. Both of Charlotte’s shots on goal came from Patrick Agyemang in the first half. Inter Miami had half the amount of chances as Charlotte but double the amount of Charlotte’s shots on target.

The scoring got started in the 30th minute when Jordi Alba delivered a cutback pass to Robert Taylor in the box, who put the ball in the net to go up 1-0. Charlotte nearly leveled the score a few minutes after when Agyemang took a shot from just outside the box and hit the left goalpost in the 35th minute. Charlotte would then tie the score in the 41st minute when Agyemang received the ball on a throw in from deep in Charlotte’s own half that he allowed to bounce past him and a defender before taking a touch to get around another defender before carrying the ball up the pitch and taking a shot just inside the box and getting it past the goalkeeper.

In the second half, Agyemang had a big chance in the 65th minute when the ball ended up at his feet near the penalty spot after Jordi Alba deflected a pass, but Agyemang sent the shot over the crossbar.

Inter Miami retook the lead in the 86th minute after Julian Gressel delivered a pinpoint pass into the box to Benjamin Cremaschi who made a sliding effort to kick the ball into the back of the net.

Late in stoppage time, Patrick Agyemang was sent off with a straight red card for stomping on a player’s foot before a free kick.

The loss was just the second one at home for Charlotte FC this season.

Charlotte FC’s next time out will be a road match against FC Cincinnati on Saturday, July 13 at 7:30 p.m. EST.
