Germany send out an early warning to the rest of the tournament after crushing Denmark

Eight times European champions  Germany sent out a message of intent at the early stages of the tournament by hammering Euro 2017 runners up Denmark 4-0 at a sold out Brentford Community Stadium on Friday night.

Goals from Bayern Munich team mates Lina Magull and Lea Schuller put the Germans on the way to victory, before two late goals from  Lene Lattwein and substitute Alexandra Popp was enough to see of the Danes who had substitute Kathrine Kuhl sent off late in the game for two yellow cards.

With Group B rivals Spain defeating Finland 4-1 in the early kick off, the Germans moved to the top of the table in the toughest group in the tournament.

Germany made their intentions known early on in the contest when Wolfsburg’s Felicitas Raunch twice hit the bar before Magull was denied by a stunning save from Denmark stopper Lene Christensen.

It wasn’t long before the deadlock was broken when Magull stole the ball off Stine Ballisager Pedersen before slotting the ball into the back of the net for Germany’s opening goal of Euro 2022.

The excellent Christensen once again was on hand to deny Magull on the stroke of half time to keep Denmark in the game.

The second half belonged to the Germans who doubled their advantage in the 57th minute when Schuller pounced from a corner.

The last ten minutes of the game saw Denmark capitulate when a yellow card for Kuhl gifted Germany a free kick around 30 yards out with Lattwein finding the net in the 78th minute.

There was still time for Germany to grab a fourth when substitute Popp in her first European Championship headed the ball home from close range.

Deep into stoppage time, Denmark’s miserable night was compounded when Kuhl was sent off after picking up her second yellow of the night to round off an evening Denmark will want to forget.
