Gasly to stay at AlphaTauri until the end of 2023

Scuderia AlphaTauri has confirmed that Pierre Gasly will remain with the team until the end of next year.

A key part of the 2022 driver market, Gasly’s future was a hotly-debated topic within the F1 paddock.

Rumours of a possible move to McLaren or Aston Martin were discussed, due to the unconfirmed futures of Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo.

However, this has now come to an end with the 26-year-old set to continue with the Italian outfit until the end of next year.

Speaking about the announcement, Gasly said:

“I have been with this team for five years now and I am proud of the journey we’ve been through together and the progress we have made.

“I’m happy to remain with my Scuderia AlphaTauri team.

“This year’s new regulations have created new challenges for us and being able to plan our development with the team for the next 18 months is a good working basis for the future.”

The Frenchman currently sits 11th in the standings after the Canadian Grand Prix, while AlphaTauri stand seventh heading to Silverstone next weekend.

This comes after Red Bull junior driver Juri Vips was suspended from all team duties following an alleged racial slur.

The future of Gasly’s teammate, Yuki Tsunoda, remains unconfirmed.
