Two Premier League clubs monitoring the situation of Michael Obafemi

According to Football League World, Brighton & Hove Albion and Watford are keeping track of Swansea City striker Michael Obafemi.

Obafemi has recently taken his goal tally to 11 for the season, which is a huge turnaround seeing as though in his first 14 games, he only scored once. Clearly his form hasn’t been overlooked as, reportedly, he has Premier League clubs watching him ahead of next season.

Obafemi only signed for the Swans last summer and has become an important player for Russell Martin as he has formed a partnership with talisman Joel Piroe.

The Swansea manager recently commented on the progression the ex-Southampton player has made this season.

“What he’s doing out of possession, he just took a bit of time to work us out and for us to work him out. He has a great relationship with us as a group, he understands what is required and what we want. He’s really bought into it. I’m really pleased he’s getting rewards for his hard work and his patience.” Martin said.

“He’s just another one we just need to keep growing with him and keep making sure we improve the bits he needs to really work on and make sure we really play to his strengths. Joel Piroe’s certainly doing that. The connection they’ve built up has been brilliant.”

Out of the two clubs it seems more likely that Brighton would be in pole position to get the signature of Obafemi as it looks like Watford are assured to be relegated from the Premier League this season. Despite this, if the 21-year-old was to sign for Brighton, he would face competition from Neal Maupay and Danny Welbeck.

It is unsurprising that Obafemi has attracted interest from clubs in the league above after his recent form. Although Obafemi may be interested in playing in the Premier League, the form and growth of the Swans in the second half of the season might be enough to keep the Irishman.

Swansea have shown signs in the last few months that they could achieve big things in the Championship next year, and this could be a huge incentive for Obafemi to stay on and push for promotion with the Welsh side.
