Fight Preview: Tyson Fury vs Dillian Whyte

WBC champion Tyson Fury faces Dillian Whyte at a sold-out Wembley Arena in the first major heavyweight fight of 2022 on Saturday.

‘The Gypsy King’ is going into the fight as a 6-1 favourite after his monumental knockout victory against Deontay Wilder last October.

Fury got the better of Wilder once and for all with an 11th round knockout in the thriller.

It marked the end of an era for heavyweight boxing as the trilogy has been the talk of the tape for the last few years.

Fans are eager to see what is in store this Saturday as both fighters are credited with deadly knockout power.

Fury has had 31 wins in his illustrious career, with 22 coming by way of knockout.

While the Mancunian boxer wasn’t originally known for his knockout power, he was renowned for his awkward fighting style and supreme technical ability but has recently transformed himself into a fearsome puncher.

Fury’s newfound power will spark worry for Whyte’s corner as he is known to have had trouble with his chin in the past. 

Whyte has had two losses in his career, both coming by way of knockout, with his first defeat being to Anthony Joshua in 2015 and again in 2020, where he was brutally knockout by Alexander Povetkin. 

Much of The Body Snatchers’ troubles have come through his apparent lack of uppercut defence, which could be a blind spot Tyson Fury could exploit come Saturday.

The odds are heavily stacked against Whyte, and many feel that he will need an Oliver McCall sized miracle to get past Tyson. 

McCall arguably caused one of the biggest upsets in boxing history, achieving a surprise knockout victory against Lennox Lewis.

There is a fair share of bad blood spanning back over a decade, with the fight set to be a heated exchange. 

After the pair parted ways as sparring partners, multiple verbal exchanges have taken place across social media. 

Both fighters have different stories of their time as training buddies, with Whyte claiming he has ‘laid out’ Fury.

More recently, Whyte’s involvement in the negotiations has been under doubt, with his Lawyers asking many Questions of The Gypsy Kings’ camp.

Whyte was seemingly absent from the fights’ opening press conference last month.

This builds anticipation for fans, with many seeing this fight as the be-all-end-all for years’ worth of bad blood and hatred.

It remains whether ‘The Body Snatcher’ will live up to his title and the weekend or whether the bookies will be right in trusting Fury’s technical supremacy and newfound right hand. 

Whatever the outcome, Wembley Arena is likely to be home to an electric night for heavyweight boxing.
